Ukraine freed 189 defenders and civilians, including fighters from 'Azovstal' and Mariupol
Ukraine successfully freed 189 people who were held captive in Russia. Among them were soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, National Guard members, border guards, and territorial defense fighters, including defenders from the 'Azovstal' plant, the city of Mariupol, Chernobyl, and Snake Island.
This was reported by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on social media on December 30.
The return of our people from Russian captivity is always wonderful news for each of us. And today is one of those days: our team managed to bring 189 Ukrainians home- wrote the head of state.

According to the president, among those released were military personnel of various ranks - soldiers, sergeants, and officers. It was also possible to free two civilians who were captured in Mariupol.
Zelensky expressed gratitude to the team engaged in the release of captives, as well as to international partners, particularly the UAE, for their assistance in freeing Ukrainians.
We are working to free every single person from Russian captivity. This is our goal. We forget no one- emphasized Zelensky.
