Witnesses report that the vehicle changed direction and targeted the crowd near the town hall. The driver was apprehended immediately after the incident. There is a possibility that there may be fatalities as a result of the attack.

According to Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, the city of Halle, which is 80 kilometers from the site of the incident, has heightened security at its Christmas market.
