Shmyhal met with the US Secretary of the Treasury to discuss cooperation and pressure on Russia
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in Washington. The meeting discussed issues of bilateral cooperation and increasing pressure on Russia. Shmyhal thanked the American people for their support of Ukraine during the Russian invasion and expressed gratitude to President Trump for continuing sanctions against the Russian Federation and the ban on the entry of Russian vessels into American ports.
They also discussed the possibilities of increasing sanctions pressure on the Russian energy sector due to the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, as well as financial aid to Ukraine for the next year. The Ukrainian government supports the conclusion of an economic partnership agreement between Ukraine and the US and the establishment of an investment fund for reconstruction.
In addition, a strategic partnership is the initiation of work on a free trade zone between Ukraine and the US. Both sides hope for a productive dialogue to ensure the welfare of the Ukrainian and American peoples.
