Odesa Theatre Caught in Scandal over Russian-Language Performances.

The Odesa Academic Musical Comedy Theatre is declining due to unacceptable repertoire choices
The Odesa Academic Musical Comedy Theatre named after M. Vodianyi faced strong criticism after announcing the performance 'The Golden Calf'. The announcement stated that the play would be staged 'in the Russian language with Ukrainian subtitles'. This was reported by Glavcom.
Ukrainians expressed outrage at this approach, pointing out that the very choice of the work for the performance is anti-Ukrainian, given that Soviet writers Ilf and Petrov expressed disdainful views about Ukraine.
Some theatre visitors advised to take such repertoire 'on tour to Moscow'.
Users of social networks also noted that the Musical Comedy Theatre has another performance based on the work of Ilf and Petrov. 'The Twelve Chairs' is also staged in the Russian language.
Additionally, the performance 'Fiddler on the Roof' based on the works of Sholom Aleichem is announced in the Russian language.
Earlier, Glavcom reported on a language scandal involving actress Larysa Kadochnikova. At the film awards ceremony, she refused to speak Ukrainian on stage, stating that she only acts in Ukrainian 'in the theatre'.
It was also revealed that a scandal over the Russian language occurred with an instructor at the Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University. He conducted a lecture in Russian, causing outrage among students.
