Czech Minister of the Interior Vít Rakusan announced that Dominik Hasek will receive state protection if necessary. The minister sent official letters to the leadership of the IOC and IIHF, stating that former Russian President Medvedev had threatened to kill him. He also emphasized the importance of the decisions of these organizations in the coming months and offered assistance in creating rules so that sports competitions do not become propaganda for the Russian war and that there are no casualties among people. Hasek has been actively opposed to the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions after the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine. Dominik Hasek is known for his sports achievements and is considered one of the best goalkeepers in NHL history. However, not everyone reacts positively to his appeals. Notorious State Duma deputy and former boxer Nikolai Valuev reacted hysterically and stated that Hasek's words are not worth attention, as he is a Russophobe.
