Norway has decided to hit tourists with a new tax

Norwegian lawmakers have passed a new law that introduces a tourism tax of 300% of the accommodation cost. The main goal of this decision is to reduce the flow of tourists and increase funding for tourism infrastructure. The tax will apply to cruise ships arriving at particularly popular destinations.

The funds generated from this tax will be used exclusively for improving tourist infrastructure in Norway. Last year, the country recorded a record number of tourists who spent over 12 million nights in Norway. However, the increase in tourism is causing problems in some regions. Overcrowded public restrooms and parking spaces are provoking negative reactions from local residents. Even the high-altitude glacier Galdhøpiggen requires artificial snow to protect it from active melting.

The country has recorded a surge in tourism, necessitating improvements in tourist infrastructure. This new decision to introduce a tourism tax aims to strengthen the industry and protect the country's natural and cultural values from the negative impacts of mass tourism.
