Lockheed Martin and Rheinmetall are establishing a European center for the production of missiles and ammunition.

The American company Lockheed Martin and the German corporation Rheinmetall have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at expanding cooperation. According to the document, the partners intend to establish a European center for the production of missiles and shells, which will help strengthen Europe's security. This center will operate in Germany and other European countries.
'This partnership reflects our commitment to advancing transatlantic security and providing state-of-the-art capabilities to our allies,' said Lockheed Martin's Vice President for International Affairs Ray Piselli. He also emphasized that this partnership will strengthen the defense industry and create new jobs.
The CEO of Rheinmetall, Armin Papperger, confirmed the complementarity of both companies and noted that Rheinmetall will be involved in both the sales and production of missiles and shells that are in demand. He expressed hope for the successful implementation of the project but pointed out that it depends on the approval of the governments of the USA and Germany.
Having partnered with the German industry for over 50 years, Lockheed Martin continues to cooperate with Rheinmetall in the production of F-35 fighter jets. Starting from July 2025, Rheinmetall will begin the production of F-35 fuselages for the international supply chain.
Analysis:
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Lockheed Martin and Rheinmetall signifies the expansion of cooperation between the companies and their mutual interest. The partnership will contribute to the security and independence of Europe, as well as the strengthening of the defense industry and the creation of new jobs. The project to establish a European center of excellence for missile and shell production has the potential to be successful; however, the main condition for its implementation is the approval of the governments of the USA and Germany. This partnership is also a continuation of the long-term cooperation between Lockheed Martin and the German industry, which is crucial for the development of technology and important industries.
