The editor-in-chief of the Catholic Information Agency, Marcin Przeciszewski, stated that Pope Francis has become the successor to the Vatican's policy of non-interference in armed conflicts. He compared Francis to Pius XII, who also maintained neutrality, and John Paul II, who broke through this policy. According to Przeciszewski, Francis's role has been influenced by his ignorance of the East and the lack of advisors who could guide him on these issues.
Pope Francis passed away on the morning of April 21 at the age of 88. He became Pope in 2013.
