Existing since 1922. One of Ukraine's publishers is ceasing to exist.

The publishing house 'Naukova Dumka' is ceasing its operations. The bookstore on Tereshchenkivska Street in Kyiv and the publisher's online store are also closing. This is reported by the publication 'Chytomo'.
According to the head of the book distribution department, Victoria Ageeva, this decision was made by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NAS).
Naukova Dumka is being liquidated because the NAS is undergoing an optimization process.
The publishing house will complete work on all planned publications as these were state orders, and they want to verify if budget funds were used appropriately.
The bookstore on Tereshchenkivska Street in Kyiv will be open until December 2. The online store offers discounts up to 75% until December 10.
History of the Publishing House
The 'Naukova Dumka' publishing house of the NAS of Ukraine was founded in November 1922 by academician, writer, historian, and philologist Agatangel Krymsky. The publishing house published scientific monographs by Ukrainian scholars, historical and cultural works, and encyclopedias of various fields and dictionaries.
Moreover, 'Naukova Dumka' published works of prominent writers such as Ulas Samchuk, Vasyl Barka, Ivan Bahriany, Todosi Osymachka, Volodymyr Vynnychenko, and others. The publishing house also released a 20-volume collection of works by Taras Shevchenko.
It should also be noted that books in Ukraine are becoming more expensive. The main owner of the 'Folio' publishing house, Oleksandr Krasovitsky, reported that currently, books in Ukraine are the cheapest in Europe.
Unfortunately, not all people in the world of book culture understand and accept new Ukrainian literary and cultural projects. In the 'Zbirka' bookstore in Kyiv, where a presentation of a photo book about queer Ukrainians is planned, founder Natalia Kuzmenko is being threatened because of this. She shared that after serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2023, they opened this bookstore. Additionally, the bookstore regularly holds educational events. Soon, a photo book by German photographer Sitara Ambrozio about the lives of representatives of the Ukrainian LGBT community during the invasion will be presented there.
