The agreement to end the Russian war must be long-lasting and include reliable security guarantees, in which Europe will play a vital role, said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. He made this statement during a press conference with Peter Pellegrini, the President of Slovakia.
Rutte emphasized that everyone wishes to end the horrific aggression against Ukraine. He noted that Ukraine is not just a partner, but a neighbor. The NATO Secretary General expressed hope that any agreement reached in this context would bring lasting peace. Russia should no longer take Ukrainian land.
Rutte also noted that Europe plays an important role in ensuring peace in Ukraine. Regarding NATO security guarantees, he stated that this issue is actively discussed with the U.S. administration.
The NATO Secretary General expressed gratitude to allies for supporting Ukraine and restraining Putin's regime. He reminded that Russia invaded Crimea and began its invasion of Ukraine. He also noted that NATO countries exceed financial obligations and provide security assistance to Ukraine. Rutte called on the world to dig deeper as the situation becomes increasingly dangerous, but NATO remains ready for deterrence and defense.
