The European Union is actively considering the possibility of extending protection for Ukrainian citizens on their territory until 2027. A decision on this issue could potentially be made in the coming weeks during the June meeting of the EU Council. Additionally, other options for the legal status of Ukrainian refugees are also on the agenda.
According to the European Commission, over 4 million refugees received temporary protection in EU countries before the start of 2025 due to the conflict in Ukraine. Furthermore, the Netherlands has set a deadline for the departure of third-country nationals who arrived from Ukraine after Russia's invasion in 2022.
The European Union is considering the possibility of extending the protection period for Ukrainian citizens residing in the EU, which automatically affects the lives of Ukrainian refugees. This decision is significant for the Ukrainian diaspora and for all those seeking refuge in other countries due to the conflict situation in Ukraine.
