Tomorrow, Ukrainian poetess Lina Kostenko will celebrate her 95th anniversary, reports the writer's daughter Oksana Pakhliovska.
The presentation of the new edition of the novel 'Berestechko' took place in Kyiv, but Lina Kostenko herself could not be present. Oksana Pakhliovska shared that her mother is very pleased that such events are taking place, even if she cannot be there in person.
Oksana Pakhliovska also noted that Lina Kostenko is currently in Kyiv and feels well. She has been by her mother's side throughout this Time, starting from the beginning of the war.
The novel 'Berestechko' was written by Lina Kostenko over 30 years. At the presentation of the new edition, Oksana Pakhliovska talked about the ideas that this work is filled with and shared childhood memories.
During her speech, Oksana Pakhliovska recalled how her mother sent her to the store to buy kefir, but she broke it on the way back. This episode deeply impressed Lina Kostenko as it was the last money in their household. At that moment, she realized that a person cannot have any compromise with the system if they have dignity and freedom.
It is also known that Lina Kostenko met with poet Serhiy Zhadan, became an honored citizen of Kyiv, and did not stop working even during the war.
A photograph of Lina Kostenko alongside paintings by former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi was published by the Mayor of Kyiv Vitalii Klitschko.
