Strawberry prices are skyrocketing: experts explained when the berry will become cheaper.


The Ukrainian market is experiencing a decrease in strawberry prices, as reported by RBC-Ukraine. However, prices remain high compared to last year due to uncertain weather conditions.
According to Tetiana Popovych, in Lviv, Ukrainian strawberries are sold for 120-144 hryvnias per kilogram, which exceeds last year's prices by 22-30%.
Experts from EastFruit note an increase in strawberry supplies from western regions, which has led to a decrease in prices. By the end of May, prices had already dropped by 35% compared to the beginning of the month.
Reasons for price increase
Adverse weather has affected yield. Frosts and cool May weather delayed harvesting, resulting in reduced supply and increased prices. Farmers report significant losses, particularly among early varieties of strawberries.
In the village of Romanyv, Volyn region, a local berry farm lost 85% of its strawberry plantations due to frosts, which happened for the first Time in a decade of operation.
The situation with strawberries is complicated, but there is hope for the renewal of planting of remontant varieties, which can bear fruit multiple times during the season. Experts predict price easing in the near future.
