Blackout in Europe, new truce from Putin. Main news for April 28.


One of the largest blackouts in history occurred in Europe. It caused paralysis of infrastructure in several countries, including Portugal, Spain, France, Andorra, and Belgium. The European Commission reported that it is already in contact with the governments of Spain and Portugal, as well as with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) regarding massive power outages. Ren, the Portuguese grid operator, stated that the blackout occurred due to a 'rare atmospheric phenomenon'. Ukraine is also offering its help in restoring energy systems in Europe, considering the existing experience of Ukrainian specialists.

The supervisory board of Naftogaz of Ukraine appointed Serhiy Koretsky new chairman of the board. The decision was made at the supervisory board meeting on April 28. Koretsky is known as a successful entrepreneur and top manager in the oil and gas industry, particularly in the field of oil extraction and refining. Currently, he heads the largest oil extraction company in Ukraine, PJSC Ukrnafta, and Ukrtatnafta.
On the morning of April 28, during an attack by Russian drones, Ukraine lost a Su-27 fighter jet. The pilot successfully ejected and was found by the search and rescue team. The reasons for this loss are being investigated by a special commission.
The conclave to elect a new Pope of Rome will begin on May 7. The elections will take place in the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican, which is currently closed to visitors. Farewells to Pope Francis have already taken place, and his body was solemnly closed in St. Peter's Basilica. President of Russia Vladimir Putin announced a new truce on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, which will begin on May 8 and last until May 11.
