The White House reaffirmed its commitment to Israel's security following the Israeli military's strike on Beirut. As a result of this strike, according to Israel, top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr was killed.
"Our commitment to Israel's security is unwavering and unshakeable, despite all the threats supported by Iran, including the Lebanese Hezbollah," said U.S. National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson, reports Times of Israel.
She said that the rocket attack that killed 12 Israelis in Majdal Shams on Saturday was "horrific".
"Israel has the right to defend itself from the serious threats it faces," Watson said.
"At the same Time, the United States continues to work towards a diplomatic solution to end these horrific attacks and allow citizens on both sides to safely return to their homes," she added.
Unnamed Israeli and American officials said in a comment to the publication that Israel had warned the U.S. in advance about the strike on Beirut.
