Austria was not affected by the halt of gas transit from the Russian Federation through Ukraine - report.

Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian gas from January 1 this year, but this did not affect gas supplies to Austria. This was stated by representatives of the Austrian gas transportation operator AGGM.

According to them, despite the conflict in Ukraine and changes in contractual situations, Austrian consumers do not experience disruptions in gas supply.

Currently, the volumes of gas arriving at the Austrian gas hub Baumgarten, which previously received Russian gas, are very low. Meanwhile, requests for gas supplies from Germany and Italy have increased.

However, despite this, gas supplies to Austria remain reliable. This information was also confirmed by the independent energy regulator of Austria, E-Control.

According to the regulator's data, recently approximately 200 GWh of Russian gas arrived in Austria daily through Slovakia. However, since January 1, this amount has decreased to 7 GWh per day.

Nevertheless, gas consumers in Austria have no reason to be concerned, as gas traders were able to find alternative routes, and now gas is supplied from Germany and Italy.

From the German direction, the gas volumes amount to about 118 GWh, and from the Italian direction - about 36 GWh. In addition, part of the gas will be taken from storage facilities.

The Austrian Ministry of Energy also confirmed the reliability of gas supply to the country. Energy Minister Leonore Gewessler noted that Austria had already prepared for the halt of Russian gas transit, and now new suppliers have emerged in the country, while part of the oil and gas company OMV has ceased cooperation with Gazprom.

Gewessler also highlighted that Austria is no longer dependent on Russian gas, which is a positive fact for the country.
